Why Should We Make Disciples?

When you have something exciting happening in your life, you can’t keep it to yourself. You want to share it with others - whether it’s a great restaurant, a vacation destination, or a service that you received. If you are a follower of Jesus, you may feel compelled to share the good news of Jesus with others.

What does the Bible say about making disciples?

The Bible is clear that those who follow Jesus are all responsible for evangelism. Still, the Bible also shares that evangelism is a spiritual gift and that not everyone has the spiritual gift of evangelism. The Bible also shares ways we can influence our spouses and children for Jesus.

How can you be a witness?

Our closest relationships can often provide the most significant opportunities to be a witness. Even if you never knock on anyone’s door to share Jesus, never doubt your ability to impact the people in your immediate sphere of influence. When you have the opportunity to intentionally invest time and care into the life of someone else who doesn’t yet know Jesus, it creates better, more natural opportunities to share your faith and to talk about the most important things in life, including your relationship with Jesus. It’s not to say that knocking on the doors of strangers to talk about Jesus is a bad thing. Many love to do it and are gifted at helping people discover God with that approach. But for the rest of us, we might be more effective as disciple-makers when we leverage relationships with the people that God has already placed in our lives.
